Instead

I will be talking about
Reparation for Slavery
Reparations for slavery is a movement in the United States, which suggests that the government apologize to slave descendants for their hardships, and bestow on them reparations, whether it be in the form of money, land, or other goods. There is also a newer movement to secure reparations, particularly from Western, ex-colonial powers, for Africa and African nations. In 2001, at a UN-sponsored World Conference against Racism, African nations demanded a clear apology for the slavery from the former slave-trading countries, but with no success.

I think that if you can somehow proove that you have ancestors that were slaves that you should get some form of reparation similar to that what the Native Americans recieve. I also think that you should be at least 50% African American of More to get reparation. Similar to how you must be 50% of more Native American to recieve reparation.

    I don’t know,
because even if they did have an ancestor that was in slavery it would be kind of I don’t know the word for it, but what if they desendent has done nothing but get into trouble and is a bad citizen (I don’t mean everyone but some people just into a lot of trouble you know.) and all, I could see if there was a family that was hard working and good people over all and deserved it, but yeah.
So I don’t know, and then theres the possiblity that people would lie about their ancestors…. so its kinda a good thing and kinda bad.

Dominic you missunderstood me, I know that the slaves worked hard and I think it was wrong to have enslaved them in the first place, but I was talking about their descendents. Like generations of today and all. get it? because I know what you mean and Im just saying its kind of a hard subject to comment on because I get both sides… understand a bit?!

It is strange that African nations should demand an apology for the slave trade. Africans ran the slave markets. European and Americans did not raid African villages to kidnap and enslave African; they purchased slaves from African tribes. The European colonization of African began after the Atlantic slave trade had been abolished; it virtually abolished slavery in Africa. Now that the Europeans have abandoned their colonies, slavery is making a strong comeback in Africa. Rather then demand apologies, the African nations should abolish human trafficking within their own borders.

In the United States, blacks as well as whites owened slaves. About 6 percent of whites owned slaves while about 1.6 percent of free blacks owned slaves. (Some of the South’s largest landowners and slaveowners were free blacks. Native Americans also owned slaves. (The Cherokee, who were the last to give up their slaves, recently made headlines by voting to deny tribal membership to the descendants of Cherokee slaves.

African Americans enjoy a much higher standard of living than Africans whose ancestors were not transported to the United States; this make them benficiaries rather than victims of the slave trade. The lasting legacy of the slave trade is that African Americans are the richest black people on the earth.

Most reparations advocates based their argument for reparations on the difference in accumulated wealth between white and black households. White households have an average net worth of about $80,000, most of it in home equity, while black households have an average net worth of about $5,000. We could close the gap by paying each black household $75,000 and pay for it by dismanteling thousdands of government affirmative action offices and social programs that tend to disporportionately benefit blacks. Having paid its “debt” and “leveled the playing field,” white America would no longer feel obliged to support these sort of programs. The $75,000 would buy a new car with enough left over for a downpayment on a house, but it wouldn’t pay the monthly mortgage bill or eliminated the gap between white and blacks on college entrance exams. To me, this make reparations seem like a poor tactic on the part of civil rights advocates.
